The Philippine archipelago consists of 7107 islands and islets. The total land area is slightly larger than the United Kingdom and roughly the same size as Italy. On the map, it sprawls between the Asian mainland and Australia. It its the only predominantly Catholic country in Southeast Asia.

In the Philippines, 40% of the total population of 80 million live below poverty level. The average household income is about $1 a day.
